Why did Surajit choose the University of Leeds?
Surajit Chaliha went to Presidency College, a small college in Calcutta for his undergraduate degree in Petroleum Engineering. Since he went to a rather small college, Surajit’s didn’t have a variety of options to choose from. However, the University of Leeds were one of the few exceptional opportunities he was presented with. During his time in Presidency College, he worked very hard to achieve high grades, and Leeds University was one of the colleges he knew he had a chance with. As a child, Surajit always had an affinity for geological sciences, and when he found out about the University of Leed’s Engineering and Science Programs, he instantly fell in love (Chaliha,S). According to Times Higher Education, Leeds has one of the most well-established reputations in the UK, ranking 97th in the world. Its Petroleum Engineering and Geology programs are one of the best in the UK. They also owned some of the most high-tech laboratories during the 1960’s (“Petroleum Engineering”).
